Tasman Explorer – Unplug to Recharge

Pedal and pause on The Great Taste Trail and surrounding countryside
Slow down, take time to enjoy the simple pleasures of an Unplug to Recharge Nelson cycle tour.

Slow travel
Allow yourself to enjoy the simple pleasures of ‘Slow Travel’. Enjoy giving yourself the gift of time with a slow paced, relaxing, and rejuvenating few days away from the hustle and bustle of daily routines. Reconnect with what you really value.
Take a gentle bike ride, or explore more challenging routes, if that’s your style of relaxation. Sit in a peaceful garden, take a picnic to a beautiful location, soak in an outdoor bath under the night sky and never have to look at the time.
Travel at your own pace
Explore tranquil countryside and experience the freedom and simplicity of pedal power. Travel at your own pace and arrive at get-away-from-it-all locations. You don’t have to skimp on comfort as we can create routes that arrive at a luxury safari tent, a world-class glamping location or a cosy country cottage.
Your pedal retreat can be catered or have provisions delivered to your accommodation if you want to self-cater. Our carefully selected quiet locations, can be surprisingly close to world class vineyards and country cafes. They mostly can keep you connected to Wi-Fi, if being without seems a step too far. How far away from everything you want to be, is your choice.

Surround yourself in nature
Take time to watch a sunrise or sunset. Stargaze. Sit with a coffee outdoors and listen to birdsong. Enjoy silence or the background noises of the countryside
If you choose to leave your accommodation you can find nearby locations where you can connect with local people, food and changing landscapes. Experience a part of New Zealand where you will meet more locals than tourists.
Slow down and enjoy simple pleasures for a few days where the focus is on recharging you, not your bike!
What other activities could help you recharge ?
The most popular non-cycling activity would be a trip into The Abel Tasman National Park. There are so many options, ranging from a half-day of kayaking or walking to all-inclusive lodge-based multi-day trips. A three-day two-night trip into the park is a great way to compliment a Great Taste Trail cycle tour.
If you are pressed for time and can’t spend more than a day in the park, there are a good variety of options.
For a small group or couple, who want to have a special day, a private boat charter is a memorable way of seeing this amazing environment.
Waka Abel Tasman allows everyone to participate in some gentle paddling. There are many kayaking options with a trip to suit everyone’s kayaking skills.
You could also opt to stay on land and walk through the native bush and forest. There are lots of walking tracks, and with walks of varying distances there is something for everyone

What our cyclists are saying
“From the start to finish Nicky was just fabulous, she organised everything for us on our 3 day Great taste biking tour, Maps, Water bottles ,Drink even a peanut butter slug -which I had never experienced before.
“We had 3 lovely days riding part of the Tasman Great Taste Trail and then through the Upper Moutere region. Our bikes were comfortable and we were provided with nice roomy waterproof panniers. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and would highly recommend Wheelie Fantastic Cycle Tours.”
“3 days, 100 odd kms (give or take), a few hills thrown in for good measure and stunning scenery. So much on offer here. Vineyards, views, mountain bike trails, leisurely trails, old pubs. Wheelie Fantastic were really fantastic. Would highly recommend.”
