One way rides on the great taste trail
A Vibrant Coastal Region That Is Perfect To Enjoy By E- Bike
The coastal part of The Great Taste Trail between Mapua and Kaiteriteri is one of the most popular parts of the Trail for day rides.
This is probably due to the many different sections which provide a great variety of scenery, cafés, galleries, honesty stalls, craft beer tasting and organic produce. Finish at Mapua with a local wine or beer
We have put together a series of one way routes that allow our guests to select how far they would like to ride in a day.
We can collect you at your Mapua/Ruby Bay accommodation or you can meet us at our meet point in Mapua, in the morning. We transfer you to the start point of your choice and you spend the day making your way back to Mapua.
Each of our ‘ready to ride’ routes finishes at the vibrant coastal village of Mapua. Here you’ll find a choice of places to relax, with something to eat or drink.
The wharf area offers a brewery, wine bar, restaurants and cafés. If you need to cool off, try wharf jumping into the estuary or watch the locals and visitors take the plunge.
There is often live music too, so all in all, it’s a great place to unwind.
Tasman Great Taste Trail Information
Kaiteriteri to Motueka
The route starts at the golden beach of Kaiteriteri, then goes through the beautiful native bush of the mountain bike park. This section of the trail is a bit narrower than the rest of the trail and has steeper slopes lasting about 200 metres as you enter and leave the park.
The route then follows the coastline before going through a kiwi fruit orchard and is now flat for approximately the next 15kms.
Riwaka & Motueka to Lower Moutere
This flat section of trail follows the coastline, including a large coastal spit, with a large variety of birdlife, tree lined paths along the edge of the beach, community gardens and fields of grazing cattle and sheep.
Riwaka provides coffee options and a very successful craft brewery is worth a visit. Seasonal fruit ice creams are also popular. There are more cafés on and close to the trail in Motueka.
Lower Motuere To Tasman View
Starts at the Riverside Community, passing their organic veggie gardens and farmscape.
The trail moves inland and includes rolling hills with panoramic views (as well as a couple of short steeper hills). From a viewpoint the trail sweeps downhill to the coast.
Tasman View To Mapua
Starting with a gentle downhill section for a few kms before reaching Tasman village, there are several café stops as well as studios and galleries around the village. There is also the option to leave the trail and follow the quiet country roads of Kina Peninsula, with tranquil beaches and vineyards.
The mostly flat section of trail continues to Mapua, taking in more viewpoints, passing olive groves, orchards and beaches before reaching the village.
